Day 1 ~ January 30, Thursday
DESTINATION – THE HOLY LAND

4pm Meet in the departure Hall at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, terminal 3 to check in for the EL AL flight. Your experience starts at 7:20pm on the direct EL AL non-stop flight, from Toronto to Tel Aviv. Meals served on board.

Day 2 ~ January 31, Friday
WELCOME TO ISRAEL

Arrive in Tel Aviv at Ben Gurion International Airport at 12:50pm. Meet your guide and driver. Visit Jaffa, of Jonah and the “big fish” and Simon the Tanner fame en route to the hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Enjoy a welcome dinner. 1 night: Leonardo hotel ~ Bat Yam (Dinner)

Day 3 ~ February 1, Saturday
FROM JAFFA TO THE GALILEE

Drive north through the Plain of Sharon, along the Mediterranean shore, on the old coastal road, known in Roman times as the Via Maris, which linked Egypt and Babylon. Stop at Caesarea Maritima, the largest port in the Mediterranean, built by King Herod the Great. Here Pontius Pilate had his seat; Cornelius lived and was baptized (Acts 10); Paul embarked to Tarsus (Acts 9:30); and Philip preached (Acts 8:40). Visit the Roman Theatre, the visitors’ center (to view the audiovisual presentation), the Hippodrome and the Aqueduct. Continue north and stop to visit the summit on Mount Carmel at “Muhraka,” the “burning place,” where Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18:30). Drive along the Jezreel Valley to Megiddo, one of King Solomon’s fortified city kingdoms (1 Kings 9:15; 10:26), site of the epic Armageddon – with impressive ruins of 21 layers of civilisation. Continue across the Jezreel Valley to the Sea of Galilee. 3 nights Nof Ginosar Village ~ Sea of Galilee (Breakfast & dinner)

Day 4 ~ February 2, Sunday
GALILEE

Visit Caesarea Philippi (Banias), where Jesus asked “Who do men say I am?” Travel onto and across the Golan Heights, stop to view Kunietra. Continue to “the other side” on the Sea of Galilee. Stop to remember the miracle of the Demonic man and the walking on the water at an ancient Byzantine monastery in Kursi. Proceed to Nazareth the boyhood village of Jesus to visit Nazareth Village to relive village life from the time of Jesus. View the Church of Annunciation and in Cana, the Church of the Wedding feast site of the 1st miracle. (Breakfast & dinner)

Day 5 ~ February 3, Monday
JESUS’ MINISTRY IN GALILEE

Visit sites central to Jesus’ Ministry – starting at the Mt Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered the famous “Sermon on The Mount” (Matt.5). The Church of The Primacy of Peter (Tabgha); and Kfar Nahum, Capernaum, centre of Jesus’ Ministry in the Galilee and site of many of his miracles (Mark 2:4; Matt.8:5; 14-7; 9; 1-7; 17: 18). See the remains of St Peter’s (mother in law’s) home and the ancient synagogue where Jesus taught and worshipped (Mark 1:21; Luke 4:31). Following the tradition of the “fishermen” disciples sail on the Sea of Galilee – with time for meditation and prayer. Visit the famous ancient boat from the time of Jesus. (Breakfast & dinner)

Day 6 ~ February 4, Tuesday
FROM THE GALILEE TO JERUSALEM

Travel south along the Jordan Valley to Beit Shean, where the body of King Saul and his sons were placed on the walls by the Philistines (1 Samuel 31:10). Known later as Scythopolis, capital of Decapolis. View the archaeological Park, with splendid ruins of the Roman / Byzantine / Omayyad cities. Follow the pilgrimage route that Jesus & the Galileans took through the homeland of Prophet Elisha in the Jordan Valley, where the desert now blooms with flowers and vegetation of every description (Isaiah 35:1-2). Visit Qumran home to the cult of the Judean desert, where a Bedouin shepherd boy discovered the Dead Sea scrolls in a nearby cave. Ascend through the Judean Wilderness to the Holy City. Enter Jerusalem as Jesus did via Mt. Scopus, recite a Psalm of ascent with your first view of the Holy city & the Temple Mt. 5 nights Prima Park hotel ~ Jerusalem (Breakfast & dinner)

Day 7 ~ February 5, Wednesday
JERUSALEM OLD & NEW

Enjoy a splendid view the City and the Holy Temple from Mt. Olives., Follow in the footsteps of Jesus and the Galileans – walk down the Mt. via Dominus Flevit to visit Gethsemane – the Church of All Nations. Continue across the Kidron valley via the Dung Gate into the Old City to visit the Jerusalem Archaeological Park (Southern Wall Excavations), including the Ophel; the Davidson Center, and stand on the very same ancient steps that Jesus & the Galilean pilgrims used to enter and exit the Holy Temple. Stop at the Western Wall an important Jewish prayer and pilgrimage site. Then walk back in time through the Western Wall Tunnels under the city, along the length of the Western Wall. Continue to the Pools of Bethesda and enjoy the splendid acoustics at St Anne’s church. End the day at the Garden Tomb – remember the resurrection and spend time for prayer and reflection. Day 8 ~ February 6, Thursday
JERUSALEM

Start the day paying respect to the victims of the Shoah (Holocaust) at Yad Vashem – National Memorial & Museum of the Shoah, including: The Valley of Communities, the Museum, Ohel Yizkor & the Children’s Memorial. Visit the Israel Museum including the model of Jerusalem from the time of Jesus and the adjacent Shrine of the Book, home of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Explore King David’s City including, Warren’s Shaft, the Canaanite tunnel and the Pools of Siloam. Continue to Mt. Zion to the Church of the Last Supper. Pay respect to Oscar Schindler at his tomb. Enter the Old City via Zion Gate enjoy a fascinating journey back in time walking through the Old city. (Breakfast & dinner)

Day 9 ~ February 7, Friday
JOURNEY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE WORLD

Descend via the Judean Desert to the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth (417 meters below sea level). Travel to Masada – visit ruins of King Herod’s imposing, remote mountaintop fortress, later the last stronghold of the Jewish revolt against the Romans in 73 C.E. (Ascend and descend by cable car). Visit Ein Gedi Oasis and the well preserved Talmud period ruins of an ancient synagogue. Stop for a unique experience, “float” in the Dead Sea – you cannot sink! Travel through the Judean desert to Jerusalem. Visit the Western Wall (Kotel) to witness the greeting of the Sabbath (Breakfast & dinner)

Day 10 ~ February 8, Saturday
AT LEISURE IN JERUSALEM

For those not on the Jordan extension ~ Enjoy a day of leisure in this fascinating city – revisit places of interest and do some shopping in the colourful “Suk” (Market Place) in the Old City, or relax in the hotel and prepare for your return flight. Enjoy a farewell dinner in the hotel. (Breakfast & dinner)

Day 11 ~ February 9, Sunday
DEPART ISRAEL

For those returning to Canada! Transfer to Ben Gurion airport. 11am Leave Tel Aviv on the direct El AL flight to Toronto, arriving at 4:14pm. Meals served on board.

MADABA / MACHAERUS

For all taking the Jordan extension – Get an early start. Travel through the Judean desert to the Allenby Bridge, cross into Jordan and meet your guide. Stop at Madaba to visit the famous ancient Byzantine Mosaic map of the world. Then visit Mt Nebo, where emulating Moses you can view the Promised land. Continue to Petra. 2 nights: Amra Palace hotel ~ Petra [Breakfast & dinner]

Day 11 February 9 ~ Sunday
PETRA

Enjoy a full day in Petra, the Red Rock, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, visiting the colourful, unique Nabatean Necropolis. Start with an easy horseback ride; continue on foot through the “Siq” a narrow immense colourful gorge, which ends at the famous treasury. Visit the many ancient temples, tombs, mosaics and the Roman theatre. [Breakfast & dinner]

Day 12 February 10 ~ Monday
PETRA / JERUSALEM

Travel north along the Kings way, through the Moab wilderness and stop to visit the desert fortress at Mukawir (Machaerus), where Herod Antipas held, then killed, John the Baptist. Cross back into Israel at the Allenby Bridge and proceed to Jerusalem. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure in Jerusalem. 1 night: Prima Park hotel ~ Jerusalem [Breakfast & dinner]

Day 13 February 11 ~ Tuesday
RETURN TO CANADA

Transfer to Ben Gurion airport. 11am Leave Tel Aviv on the direct EL AL flight to Toronto, arriving at 4:15pm. Meals served on board.
