WELCOME TO ISRAEL
Day 2 ~ Thursday
Arrive at Ben Gurion International Airport 10:15am. Clear passport control and customs and meet your tour guide. Stop at the Biblical Botanical Garden Naot Kedumim to learn more about the Bible and Botany with emphasis on understanding the impact of Hebrew words for plants, vine and trees. Travel to ancient Jaffa / Joppa of Jonah and the whale (Jonah 1) and Tabitha (Acts 9: 36 – 42) fame and view Andromeda’s rock in the ancient port as you walk through the colourful alleyways of this ancient port city. Travel through Tel Aviv the new city, the Hill of Spring then continue north along the coastal road en route to the beach side hotel. 1night: Resort hotel ~ Hadera [dinner]
Day 3 ~ Friday
Drive north through the Plain of Sharon, along the Mediterranean shore. Stop at Caesarea the largest port in the Mediterranean, built by King Herod the Great. Here Pontius Pilate had his seat; Cornelius lived and was baptized (Acts 10); Paul embarked to Tarsus (Acts 9:30) and Philip preached (Acts 8:40). Visit the Roman Theatre, the Hippodrome and aqueducts and view the Crusader City. Continue north, view Muhraka “the burned place,” on the summit of Mt. Carmel, where the prophet Elijah challenged the 400 false prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18:30). Travel along the Jezreel Valley to Megiddo, visit one of King Solomon’s fortified city kingdoms (1 Kings 9:15; 10:26), with impressive ruins of 25 layered levels of civilization. From here the Books of Daniel and Revelation will come alive as you read about the final Battle at Armageddon, while viewing the fertile plains of Jezreel. Proceed to Nazareth, the boyhood town of Jesus, view the Church of the Annunciation. If possible visit the excavations adjacent to the Church of Annunciation (if not possible then visit the excavation at the ancient quarry before Kana – we will not visit both). Then stop at the Historical Nazareth Village to relive village life from the time of Jesus. to visit Nazareth Village to relive life from the time of Jesus. Continue to the Sea of Galilee, time permitting visit Mt Arbel for a spectacular view of the area of Jesus’ ministry, the Sea of Galilee, the upper Galilee and the Golan Heights. 2 nights: Ramot hotel ~ Golan Heights [Breakfast & dinner]
JESUS’ MINISTRY IN GALILEE
Day 4 ~ Saturday
Emulating the disciples sail on the Sea of Galilee, then stop to visit the ancient boat from the time of Jesus. Drive north along the Jordan Valley and stop to visit Banias, one of the sources of the Jordan River, site of ancient “Caesarea Philippi” and the Northern extent of Jesus’ ministry, where Peter made the confession of faith in Christ (Matt; 16:16). Talk about Kibbutzim & Moshavim and point out some. Continue onto the Golan Heights, stop in the Valley of Tears to recall the desperate, heroic battle fought there in 1973. Proceed to the Mt. of Beatitudes where Jesus delivered “The sermon on the Mount” (Matt.5). Travel to Kfar Nahum (Capernaum) centre of Jesus’ Ministry in the Galilee and site of many of his miracles (Mark 2:4; Matt.8:5; 14-7; 9; 1-7; 17: 18). See the remains of St Peter’s house and the ancient synagogue where Jesus worshipped and taught. (Mark 1:21; Luke 4:31). Continue to Magdala, the village of Mary Magdalene, where you visit the new archeological discovery and the very synagogue that Mary Magdalene would have worshipped in. [Breakfast & dinner]
GALILEE – JERUSALEM
Day 5 ~ Sunday
Travel south to Beit Shean, where the body of King Saul and his sons were placed on the walls by the Philistines (1 Samuel 31:10), later known, in Jesus day, as Scythopolis, capital of Decapolis. Visit the large impressive archaeological site. Drive through the Jordan Valley, where the desert now blooms with flowers and vegetation of every description (Isaiah 35:1-2). Drive around Jericho, the oldest town in the world (which you will see from a distance), then stop at Kasr el Yahud, where John Baptised Jesus. Continue south, then along the shores of the Dead Sea to Qumran, home of the Cult of the Judean Desert, where a shepherd discovered the Dead Sea Scrolls (1947) in a nearby cave. Then ascend through the Judean Desert Wilderness and stop to view the ancient aqueduct and St George’s Monastery in Wadi Kelt. Ascend to the Holy City - golden Jerusalem. After entering Jerusalem, stop on Mt Scopus, as the Galileans did, recite a Psalm of Ascent and enjoy the first fantastic view of the Holy City. 5 nights: Grand Court hotel ~ Jerusalem [Breakfast & dinner]
Day 6 ~ Monday
Start the day at Yad Vashem – national memorial and Museum of the Shoah (Holocaust), pay tribute to the six million Jewish victims of the Shoah (Holocaust) in Europe during the Second World War. Walk along the Avenue of the Righteous Amongst the Nations commemorating those who at great personal risk saved Jewish souls. Visit the Museum, Ohel Yizkor and the Children’s Memorial. Continue to the Israel Museum to visit the Shrine of the Book, home of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest Bible manuscripts and the adjacent scale Model of ancient Jerusalem, describing the city from the time of Jesus. Visit Zedekiah’s Cave also known as King Solomon’s quarries. Proceed to King David’s City, your visit includes: ruins of King David’s city, the Canaanite tunnel, the Pool of Siloam and the underground route to Robinson’s Arch. Visit the South Western Archaeological Park adjacent to and under the Temple Mount, including the very same steps that Jesus and the Galileans used to enter and exit the Holy Temple.

Day 7 ~ Tuesday
Start the day on the Mount of Olives for a panoramic view of Jerusalem. Visit Emmek Zurrim – get your hands dirty sifting through layers of dirt take from the Temple Mt. Stop in Gethsemane at the Church of All Nations, with time for contemplation and prayer in the adjacent Olive grove. Continue along the Kidron (the Valley of Jehoshaphat), past the Tombs of Absalom, Zechariah and James. Enter the Old City at Zion Gate. Walk through the Armenian and the Jewish Quarter. Visit the ancient main street called the “Cardo” and the many “archaeological windows” into the city’s layered past, including the Broad Wall. View the Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa Mosque built on the Temple Mount then stop at the Western Wall (Kotel) to visit the important Jewish prayer and pilgrimage site. Walk back in time through the Western Wall tunnels. Continue to the pools of Bethesda, then walk through the “Suk,” the colourful bazaars and alleyways and stop to see the Roman piazza under the Damascus Gate. End the day at the Garden Tomb with time for reflection, prayer and communion.

MASADA / DEAD SEA
Day 8 ~ Wednesday
Drive through the Judean desert to the lowest point on earth at the Dead Sea, over 1300 feet below sea level. Continue south to Masada. Ascend (descend) by cable car to the summit of King Herod the Great’s imposing, remote desert fortress, later the last stronghold of the Jewish Zealots in the revolt against Rome (73 ACE). Stop to visit Ein Gedi Oasis in the desert, where David fled the wrath of King Saul and take a short walk in David’s River to the waterfall. Proceed to Ein Gedi Spa and Dead Sea Beach to float on the Dead Sea– you cannot sink! End the day at Genesis land, where you ride camels to Abraham’s tent and enjoy biblical hospitality. Return to Jerusalem.

Day 9 ~ Thursday
Spend a day of leisure in this fascinating city. With time to re-visit the Old City for shopping in the bazaars, or walk through the new city along Jaffa Road and Ben Yehuda Street, Mahane Yehuda market. Visit one of the many Museums that Jerusalem has to offer (a modest entrance fee is required) or simply relax at the hotel and prepare for your late evening departure. Enjoy a farewell dinner in the hotel.

Day 10 ~ Friday
8:15am Transfer to Ben Gurion airport for your direct nonstop Air Canada flight AC81 to Toronto. Depart Tel Aviv at 11:55am, arriving in Toronto at 5pm. Meals served on Board. Continue on your Air Canada flight AC543 to Seattle at 6:25pm, arriving in Seattle at 8:55pm.
