Afternoon departure from Ottawa to Cairo, capital of Egypt.
Upon morning arrival in Cairo we are transferred to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
Old Cairo - Egyptian Museum, Giza
After breakfast we visit the Old Cairo including the Hanging Church, the most famous Coptic church in Cairo, built over the Roman Gate of Babylon and St. Sergius Church with a crypt where the Holy Family took shelter. Lunch at local restaurant. In the afternoon we will experience the Egyptian Museum which contains the world’s largest & finest collection of Egyptian antiquities representing over 5000 years of history. On to the great Pyramids of Giza, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world and the mysterious Sphinx. Return to our hotel for dinner & overnight
Sinai Peninsula - St Catherine, Taba on the Red Sea
This morning we depart to Sinai, the land bridge between Asia and Africa and civilizations of the ancient world. Lunch en-route. On to St. Catherine, at the foot of Mount Sinai, to visit the Greek Orthodox Monastery dating back to the 4th Century. Continue to Taba on the Red Sea for dinner & overnight.
Today we cross the border at Taba between Egypt and Israel and continue to Jericho, the oldest inhabited city in the world. We visit the town and celebrate Mass before transferring to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
Masada - Qumran - Dead Sea
This morning we leave for a full day excursion to the famous fortress of Masada, Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947 and the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. Time for floating in the Dead Sea before returning to Jericho for dinner and overnight..
Qasr El Yehud - Mount Tabor
After breakfast we depart to Galilee. En route we stop at Qasr El Yehud, the place where Jesus was baptized. Continue to Mount Tabor – the Mount of the Transfiguration. Dinner and overnight in Nazareth.
Sea of Galilee - Capernaum, Magdala - Tabgha - Cana
Today we visit Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee. Cruise to Capernaum to see the ruins of the house of St. Peter and the synagogue where Jesus preached. On to the Mount of Beatitudes, site of the “Sermon on the Mount”. Continue to Magdala, Tabgha and its ancient Church of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes and Church of Primacy. In the afternoon visit to Cana, the traditional site of the wedding feast and Christ’s first Miracle. Return to hotel for dinner & overnight.
Nazareth - Haifa - Bethlehem
This morning we celebrate Mass at the Basilica of the Annunciation and we visit Mary's Well and St. Joseph's Carpentry Shop in Nazareth. Then we depart to Judea. En route we visit Haifa and Mt. Carmel, the “burning place” where Elijah called fire down to confound the prophets of Baal.. We continue via Cesarea-by-the-Sea, the ancient Roman town and a site of Jesus preaching. Dinner and overnight in Bethlehem.
Jerusalem - Bethlehem
In the morning visit the Church of the Ascension on the Mount of Olives and move on to the Church of Pater Noster and the Garden of Gethsemane. We continue our visit of Jerusalem's Mount Zion with the Upper Room (Room of the Last Supper) and the Church of St. Peter's in Gallicantu. In the afternoon, we visit Bethlehem: the Church of the Nativity, the Milk Grotto and the Shepherds Field. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
Today's journey takes us to the ancient city of Jerusalem: St. Ann's Church, Pool of Bethesda, Pilate's Judgment Hall, the Chapel of the Flagellation and the Arch of Ecce Homo, the convent of the sisters of Zion. We continue with the Stations of the Cross – Via Dolorosa to the Holy Sepulchre. Mass will be celebrated in one of the many churches of Jerusalem. In the afternoon we visit the Western Wall, also called the “Wailing Wall”. We see the place of the Mosque of Omar and El Aksa before returning to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
